Joe has been a teacher in the Grand Forks public schools since 1977, first at Schroeder Junior High School, and for the last 20 at Grand Forks Central High School.  There is no doubt that nobody has seen more basketball played in the new Central gymnasium than Joe.  First as a parent, he and his wife Jill, also a GF Central graduate, watched their three children all compete in basketball.  Second, since the introduction of the shot clock in class ‘A’ basketball, Joe has run that clock for virtually every single varsity and junior varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball game played in the gym.

Joe was also an excellent athlete at Grand Forks Central.  Joe lettered in cross country three years while being selected all-state in 1970. He was a member of the boys state championship basketball team in 1970, and was all-conference in basketball in 1971. He also lettered three years in track and field.

Joe lists the intense rivalry with Red River as a fond memory, because they were the new school in the early 70’s.  Joe believes what sets Central apart is the rich tradition from being one of the oldest Class ‘A’ schools in the state of North Dakota.
