Pat was a true multi-sport athlete in the mid 80’s for the GFC Redskins. He lettered twice in basketball, three times in football (with 2 All-Conference awards) and four times in Track & Field. It was during his senior year that he placed 1st in the State Track meet in the Long Jump and also held the EDC 400M record of 49.65.
It was hard for Pat to choose one memory from his time at GFC, but one that was at the top of the list was the 1986 EDC Semifinal game when the ‘Skins upset Fargo South and went on to place fourth in state. “That year we had multiple games where we came back from a halftime deficit (Fargo South, Devils Lake, West Fargo, Minot Ryan at State). We had a losing record for the year but played hard as a team. After that Fargo South Game, Coach Sullivan did a cartwheel!”
After high school, Pat went to NDSU to play football. There he was part of three National Championship football teams. Pat’s love for athletics continued after competing in college. He went on to coach Track & Field at the high schools in Grand Forks as well as football at both Morningside University and Mayville State University. One person that had a big influence on him was Coach Mike Berg. Speaking of Coach Berg, Pat says, “We were not a winning football team at GFC while I was there but we played hard and had fun. I went on to coach college and high school for 20 years and one thing I tell all players is “Play Smart, Play Hard, Play Fast, but most of all have fun.”
Pat currently resides in Billings, MT, where he is married to Katie and has 2 boys - Isaac and Jacob.
