Mike was a standout in three sports at GFC. Recognized as perhaps the best overall athlete in Grand Forks during his high school years, he started in goal for two state championship hockey teams, and was selected to play in the Shrine All Star football team as a running back. However, Mike lists his most memorable athletic accomplishment as being the medalist in the North Dakota State Golf Tournament, and then traveling to the National High School Golf Championship with his coach, Bob Leach, to compete against state champions from around the country.
Mike notes that he has many fond memories from his time at Central. He emphasizes that the lessons learned in competition helped shape him into the man he is today, and that the friendships he made with teammates have lasted a lifetime. His advice for GFC students is to find a way to be involved, if not in athletics, then an activity that will allow you to find your passion. He was influenced by many outstanding teachers and coaches who get credit for his success.
Mike is married to his high school girlfriend and GFC graduate, Peri (Kringen), and they have three children; Chad, Bailey, and Eric. They reside in Arden Hills, Minnesota. He states that his greatest accomplishment is sharing a life with his Grand Forks Central prom date!
