Peter was a multi-sport athlete who participated in Boys’ Golf and Boys’ Hockey. He earned six letters, three in golf and three in hockey.  In golf, he finished 2nd at the 1964 State Meet and won the GF City Junior tourney in 1964. In hockey, he was a tri-captain along with being named 2nd team All-State in 1965. After high school, Peter won the 1967 ND State Public Links Championship, the 1968 ND Open Amateur Championship, the 1968 North Central Championship, and the 1970 All-City Men’s tourney.

Peter has many fond memories of his time at GF Central. He stated, “We were friends that had competed starting in Park District hockey and continued to be very competitive until graduation, but were very team-oriented.” He also stated that living throughout the U.S during his career, he could tell how great the GF Parks programs were and how he received an excellent education at GF Central. “Our coaches were not only great coaches, they were mentors beyond sports. He stayed in contact with Serge Gambucci and often visited with Serge and his wife Elenor when he was back in Grand Forks.” He would also get back to Bemidji and golf with his golf coach, Marv Skaar. He became lifelong friends with both Gambucci and Skaar.

Peter currently lives in Surprise, AZ and is mostly retired, but does some occasional golf course consulting. His sister, Thoraine Loyd, was a hockey cheerleader with the 1961 and 1962 Championship teams at GFC.
