Victor (Vic) had a great athletic career at GFC while participating in football and wrestling. Vic was a three-year letter winner in football and was a team captain during his senior season. When recalling his time on the football team, Vic said, “In football, we may not have had the biggest or fastest players on the field, but we played tough and never gave up on the field. This was a testament to Coach Berg and his staff for instilling in us the will to play hard until the final play.”

Vic was a varsity wrestler for GFC for five seasons. During his five years on varsity, Vic had a record of 120-35-2. This places him seventh on the Central career wins list. He was a four-time EDC Tournament place winner, including winning the EDC Championship his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Vic was also a four-time state placer. He placed fourth as a freshman, sixth as a sophomore, third as a junior, and won the state championship his senior year at 145 pounds. A special part of wrestling for GFC was that Vic had the unique opportunity to be coached by his father, long time Central wrestling coach Vince Ames, also a member of the GFC Athletic Hall of Fame.

After graduating from Central, Vic attended West Point and graduated from there in 1992. He was then stationed in Germany and in Bosnia, where he met his wife, Chrissy. Vic and Chrissy have a daughter, Jessica. They reside in Bristol, England, where Chrissy is originally from. Vic is currently employed by Parsons Corporation and has been working on international projects in both Europe and the Middle East the past ten years.

Vic had this to say when reflecting on his time at GFC. “It was the pride of Central and the students that attended. As the older school in Grand Forks, Central had much more history than Red River and based on location, a more diverse population of students including air base students. Whether in the classroom, on athletic teams, in clubs, or in activities, there was a unique bond that was formed at Central that has lasted throughout the years for many of us. Plus we had a great set of teachers at Central during those years that not only were great instructors, but mentors and coaches as well. They cared about us as students and athletes.”

Vic would like to recognize his parents for being great parents and instilling in him a work ethic and values while growing up. As his daughter's experience attending the equivalent of high school in England is much different than his high school experience at Central, he often shares with her the experiences that he had at Central and the great friends that he still has from his high school years.
